About DMV Heat Pumps

Before working in local search, he spent years as a vascular ultrasound technologist at Frederick Health, where every decision started with an accurate measurement. He brings the same habit to home heating: measure the house, seal it, size the system, then install. Max founded Mbrace Insight, which helps independent DMV service businesses get found online, and he publishes DMV Heat Pumps so homeowners can compare installers on how they work, not just how they advertise.

Why this directory exists

I spent years as a vascular ultrasound technologist at Frederick Health. Every decision in that job started with an accurate measurement, and nobody treated a patient from a guess. When I started working with HVAC companies around the DMV, I saw homeowners spend five figures on heat pumps that were sized by rule of thumb, installed into leaky houses and connected to ducts nobody had checked.

The good installers here already work the other way. They measure the house, seal it, size the system from a load calculation, then install. The trouble is that a homeowner in Silver Spring, Arlington or Capitol Hill cannot tell those companies apart from the rest by looking at a star rating.

So I built DMV Heat Pumps. It lists every reviewed HVAC contractor in Maryland, Washington DC and Northern Virginia, and it marks which ones say, in their own words, that they install heat pumps, run load calculations, do air sealing and work on ductwork. It does not rank anyone by who paid, except where a placement is clearly marked. My aim is a shorter, better phone list for homeowners, and more of the right calls for the installers who do the work properly.

How listings are vetted

Every listing starts from public business data for HVAC contractors across Maryland, Washington DC and Northern Virginia. We keep the ones that are open, have at least one Google review and were updated in the last year, and we merge duplicates.

Then we read each company's own website. A listing shows "Installs heat pumps", "Load calculation (Manual J)", "Energy audit or air sealing" or "Ductwork" only when the company says so in its own words. Companies that confirm heat pump installs sort above the rest on every city page, after paid placements.

Right now that is 1,454 heat pump installers in 115 cities across the DMV, last refreshed 2026-10-18.

Owners can claim their listing for free. Every claim is checked by a person: a real local business, a matching email domain or a call to the number on the Google listing. Paid placements are marked as featured, premium or best-of wherever they appear.
